Jeep Warranty Explained (by a Former Warranty Administrator)

Quick answer

Jeep's new-vehicle warranty is 3 years/36,000 miles basic and 5 years/60,000 miles powertrain, with 5-year/unlimited-mile rust-through coverage and 5-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance. 4xe plug-in batteries carry 10 years/100,000 miles (10/150 in CARB states). Jeep Wave free maintenance ended with the 2025 model year.

Coverage at a glance

Years OR miles — whichever comes first. US-market terms.

Basic (bumper-to-bumper)

3 years / 36,000 mi

Factory defects in materials or workmanship: Uconnect, electronics, soft-top hardware defects, sensors, A/C. Wear items and damage from use (including trail use) are excluded.

Powertrain

5 years / 60,000 mi

Engine, transmission, transfer case, and drive-system internals — the 4x4 hardware Jeep is famous for is covered here, as long as the failure is a defect and not trail damage.

Corrosion (rust-through)

5 years / Unlimited

Outer-body panels perforated from the inside out: 5 years, unlimited miles (other panels 3 years). Surface rust — a sore subject on Wrangler door hinges and cowls — is generally not perforation and gets fought case by case.

Roadside assistance

5 years / 60,000 mi

24/7 towing to the nearest dealer, jump starts, flat-tire and lockout service. Recovery from off-road situations is not part of the program — that bill is yours.

4xe high-voltage battery

10 years / 100,000 mi

Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in battery coverage: 10 years/100,000 miles in most states, 10 years/150,000 miles in CARB states. Other hybrid components follow shorter schedules — check the booklet.

Jeep Wave (MY2021–2025)

2 years / —

Owner-loyalty program for vehicles purchased model years 2021–2025: oil changes and tire rotations in the first 24 months, plus perks. Not offered on model year 2026 and newer — Stellantis points 2026 buyers to paid FlexCare plans instead.

What the claims counter wants you to know

  • Jeep Wave is gone for model year 2026+: no included maintenance. If you're buying a leftover 2024/2025, confirm Wave enrollment status — it's a real-money difference between two otherwise identical Jeeps.
  • Off-road damage is not a warranty matter — defects are. Water intrusion past the fording depth, dented skid plates with a related failure behind them, and rock rash near a broken component are how trail claims get denied. Photograph your underbody periodically so you can prove pre-existing condition.
  • Lifts and oversized tires don't void coverage, but they shift the burden in practice: steering, death-wobble, axle, and driveshaft claims on modified Wranglers get factory-level scrutiny. Keep the stock parts and reinstall receipts.
  • Maintenance records are your armor — Magnuson-Moss lets you service anywhere, including your driveway. With no Wave plan anchoring dealer visits on 2026+ Jeeps, your receipt folder is the only service history that exists. Date, mileage, oil spec, every time.
  • The 4xe battery warranty (10/100, or 10/150 CARB) outlasts everything else on the vehicle and transfers with it — but other hybrid components follow shorter schedules, and software/charging-equipment issues route through the basic warranty. Get failures documented early.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Jeep warranty transfer to a second owner?
Yes — the remaining basic, powertrain, corrosion, and 4xe battery coverage follows the vehicle to subsequent owners at no charge. Jeep Wave benefits, where they exist (MY2021–2025), were tied to the original purchase and don't carry over the same way — verify status on a used buy.
Is the Wrangler 4xe battery covered, and for how long?
Yes. The high-voltage battery in 4xe models is covered 10 years/100,000 miles in most states and 10 years/150,000 miles in California-emissions (CARB) states, including failure from defects. Normal gradual range loss isn't a covered failure, and non-battery hybrid components carry shorter terms.
Will a lift kit or 35-inch tires void my Jeep warranty?
Not automatically — federal law requires Jeep to show the modification caused the specific failure before denying that claim. Realistically, a lifted Jeep on oversized tires will face hard questions on any steering, axle, or driveline claim, because the causal argument is easy to make. Unrelated coverage (Uconnect, A/C, paint) is untouched.
Does taking my Jeep off-road void the warranty?
No — Jeep markets Trail Rated vehicles and normal off-road use doesn't void anything. But damage isn't a defect: bent tie rods, water-ingested engines past fording depth, and impact-cracked housings are excluded as damage regardless of where it happened. The warranty covers what the factory got wrong, not what the trail did.
Did Jeep get rid of free maintenance?
For new model year 2026 vehicles, yes — Jeep Wave (which included oil changes and rotations for 24 months) is not offered on 2026+, replaced by paid FlexCare plans. Vehicles purchased as model years 2021–2025 keep the Wave benefits they were enrolled with.
